Fix Kernel Panic? (10.5.8)?

When I turn my laptop on the apple turns red and gray. I got it to start working at one point then it froze and everything turned red and gray. I hope I do not have to erase everything off of my computer and start all over again. This happened already a couple of times but i always got it to start working again. This time it is different! HELP HELP!
