Knuckle sprain or maybe something else?

The other day I was playing softball, and me being a shortstop I get the throw downs from the catcher and when she threw it, it somehow hit my non glove hand. I don't know what happened but it hurts around my knuckle. There is little swelling but it hurts when I try to grip something. I want to know what to do now and what happened to me?
