Ubuntu help, kernel panic?

it sounds like a problem with your hard drive filesystem. maybe you should get an ubuntu install disk (maybe the version you had before the update?), boot from it, extract your personal data from the hard drive, then install ubuntu from the cd and put your files in the new install. maybe the new kernel just didn't like your hardware
